Finance Specialist, Accounting & Reporting (BeNe)


The Accounting Services team is an integral part of Sanoma Group Finance Control and provides accounting services to Sanoma’s Learning and Media operations. As a function we aim to provide scalable and high-quality accounting services, driving value from an end-to-end perspective. We want to be the go-to party for all local accounting related questions.
Our Finance function is going through a significant transformation program where we are implementing new finance systems and are reshaping our finance organization.
As a result we are now building an entirely new accounting team with where continuous improvement is in our DNA. Sanoma’s culture is dynamic, and we are looking for driven, positive individuals who are not afraid to take ownership and make decisions independently.

The job
In this role you will be responsible for monthly accounting activities of Sanoma Learning’s subsidiaries in the BeNe region and will be a member of the BeNe Group Accounting team. On a monthly basis you are performing accounting activities, resulting in a month-end closing process, eventually ensuring quality and timely reporting of the financial results in HFM. Apart from this you also ensure accounts are reconciled and key controls are performed. You support the tax area by preparing tax calculations and monthly VAT and other tax filings. You are responsible for preparing annual accounts and other local statutory reporting (i.e. CBS) and coordinate / support the audit.
You are supported by Manager Accounting services and collaborate closely with business stakeholders as well as other finance teams.

In this role you get the chance to be part of interesting projects such as M&A and finance system implementation projects. Further, you play a key role in continuously improving and enhancing our local accounting, tax and reporting processes.
You have strong excel skills and constantly look for continuous improvement of daily activities. You are quickly able to adapt to new processes and tools, can resolve any problem quickly and understand how to optimize our systems and ways of working.


Qualifications required
To succeed in this role, we are looking for the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or similar, preferably a major in Accounting or Finance
  • Preferable five years of experience in an accounting role
  • Strong understanding of Belgium and/or Dutch local GAAP and tax, IFRS considered a plus
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in English and Dutch. French considered an advantage
  • Customer driven continuous improvement mindset
  • An independent and proactive approach to work and good team playing skills
  • Digi savvy, experience with SAP and HFM systems considered a plus
